150 Nonprofits Register to Participate in Midlands Gives Day
Online Giving Challenge to Take Place on May 6, 2014
Columbia, SC – On May 6, 2014, Central Carolina Community Foundation will present the Midlands’ first regional day of giving. During the 24-hour online giving challenge, Midlands Gives will bring our region together as one community by raising money and awareness for 150 Midlands nonprofits.
Midlands Gives is part of a national day of giving called Give Local America that encourages people to make gifts that support vital causes in their local community. This effort, a celebration of the centennial anniversary of community foundations nationwide, promotes and encourages local philanthropy.
Contributions to Midlands Gives will benefit local organizations in our communities, each of which received marketing training sponsored by Colonial Life.
On May 6, a gift to any of the participating nonprofit organizations will receive bonus dollars from bonus pool sponsors, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Lipscomb Family Foundation.
Aflac is sponsoring Golden Ticket prizes that will add $500 to a randomly selected donor’s gift every hour for a total of 24 prizes. They also will provide six Power Hour prizes awarding $1,000 to the nonprofit with the most donors in that hour.
All together, the bonus pool and prize incentives will provide more than $92,000 to the participating organizations.
“Giving Days are becoming widely popular around the country as they are spurred by engaged communities and social media,” said JoAnn Turnquist, President and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “They provide an opportunity for anyone to become a philanthropist with an online donation. We look forward to magnifying the Midlands on May 6 by connecting local nonprofits to the generous folks in our community.”
