We Won

Dr. Jed N. Snyder

John 20:30-31

When on Easter believers call out “He Is Risen” and the antiphonal response is “He Is Risen Indeed” we could just as easily call out, “We Won,” “We Really Won.!” The Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the spreading of the gospel with its transforming power is factual evidence that “We Won.” Please read these two verses that John, the Apostle wrote about this victory.

Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. John 20:30-31

Now that this annual celebration is over, the question remains for each of us. “What does this victory mean for the future?” Since Jesus did rise of his own accord from the tomb because he was Lord of all, we can move forward with every confidence that we have won.

Think back with me. Were you there when Lazarus came shuffling out of the tomb and Jesus told the onlookers to “unwrap” him from the grave clothes? Were you there when he walked on the water and, like Peter, have you walked on the water until you took your eyes off him? Were you there when he called to Mary standing outside the tomb with that simple word, “Mary”? At each occasion and many similar ones, the statement “we won!” is appropriate.

Do you believe that this same Jesus is alive and active today? Will you accept the miracles he wants to perform believing by faith that “he is risen indeed.” Will you act like you have won, because Jesus won? This truth can be transformative. He won! I won!

Easter 2017 is past, but daily winning is happily ahead.
