Two Richland One Seniors Achieve Perfect Attendance
Even at 5 or 6 years old, Allen Myers believed in setting long-term goals. One day after kindergarten class, he decisively told his mom, Shelia Myers, that his goal was “not to miss a day of school,” ever, “all the way through 12th grade.” Stunned, Mrs. Myers told him it could happen if he wanted it bad enough and if he prayed that God would keep him healthy.
Allen, or “AJ” as he prefers, who is now a senior at Dreher High School, has achieved 12 years of perfect attendance. But he’s not the only Richland One student who will be graduating with that distinction this year. Ansulkumar Patel, a senior at Lower Richland High School, also has never missed a day of school.
Lower Richland Principal Dr. Ericka Hursey says coming to school was important to Ansulkumar because he enjoys learning new things every day. “He told me that if he felt like he was getting sick, he would take medicine so that he could still come to school. Even when he goes to college this fall, he said he’ll continue going to classes every day because it will help him reach his goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon.”
In addition to achieving perfect attendance, AJ and Ansulkumar are Richland One Academic All-Stars and both plan to attend the University of South Carolina this fall. AJ will major in sports entertainment management and Ansulkumar will pursue a medical degree.
Richland One extends its congratulations to both seniors, as well as to their very proud families, for achieving their perfect attendance goals.
