A 70-to-80-acre residential and commercial community is being planned at a site off of Columbia’s North Main Street, near I-20. The new project is named Azurest at Heritage Creek.
Azurest at Heritage Creek will include many types of homes and townhouses, a senior living facility, a grocery/hardware store, a walking trail, a hotel, boutique shops, business offices, casual dining and fast-food restaurants, medical clinics, a school, and a club house, among other features.
An official unveiling of the project’s plans was held at Greenview Plaza. The plan includes the development of property held in trust by the prominently-known and civic-minded Monteith family.
Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin told a gathering at the on-site press conference that the timing is just right for the project. Construction is expected to begin in 2018.
The Eau Claire Development Corporation and WAT Properties, a private developer, are collaborating on the development.
