New Richland One Teacher Wins Awards for Teaching Excellence

Maria Ausburn, agriculture teacher at W.J. Keenan High School, has been named New Teacher of the Year by the South Carolina Association of Career and Technical Education (SCACTE).  As the state winner, Ms. Ausburn will now advance to compete on the national level.

Recipients of this award are recognized for making significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs and for showing a professional commitment early in their careers.

“I want to thank [Keenan] for all the support throughout my first year of teaching. I’m beyond grateful for this opportunity,” said Ms. Ausburn.

At Keenan, Ms. Ausburn teaches animal science and agriculture mechanics, as well as agriculture science and technology. In the classroom she focus on informing students about the different aspects of agriculture and making them aware of the importance of agriculture in today’s society. She also serves as an advisor to Keenan’s FFA (Future Farmers of America) organization, which is one of the nation’s top ranked chapters.
