IRMO – The National PTA (Parent-Teacher Association) has awarded Irmo Elementary School’s PTA with a $1,000 grant to promote family engagement in education during Take Your Family to School Week. Irmo Elementary is one of only 55 PTAs nationwide selected to receive a grant.

“I am thankful for our PTA’s efforts in writing grants to continuously improve Irmo Elementary School,” said Irmo Elementary principal Tina McCaskill. “Family involvement is key to our school community and its success. Michelle Burgess, our PTA president, has been key to encouraging all families to volunteer and be a part of their child’s elementary experience. She and her board members go above and beyond to welcome participation throughout the year.”

With the grant, Irmo Elementary School PTA will host “Bee Fit Night” during Take Your Family to School Week. “Bee Fit Night” is designed to engage the entire family in learning about the multiple dimensions of health.

National PTA’s Take Your Family to School Week is designed to encourage families to visit their child’s school and get more involved in their education as well as strengthen partnerships between parents, teachers and administrators.

“Family engagement in education is proven to positively impact student, school and community outcomes,” said Jim Accomando, president of the National PTA. “National PTA’s Take Your Family to School Week reinforces PTA’s long legacy and mission to promote children’s educational success, health and well-being through strong family engagement. National PTA is thrilled to equip Irmo Elementary School PTA with resources to get more families involved in their child’s education.”
