East Point Academy Named School of Distinction
West Columbia, SC – East Point Academy has been named a School of Distinction for the second consecutive year by the South Carolina Public Charter School District for promoting school improvement and excellence.
“I am so proud of our teachers and students. Being named a School of Distinction is another validation of the high quality academics and programs we offer at East Point Academy. We are very pleased to receive this honor and know that an even brighter future is ahead,” said East Point Academy Head of School Mark Bounds.
The SCPCSD Distinction Program was formed to recognize schools that exhibit excellence in overall academic achievement and/or overall student growth measures. EPA shares this honor with eight other schools, of which five are in the Upstate, two others are in the Midlands and one is in the Lowcountry.
“I want to personally congratulate Principal Mark Bounds and the teachers and staff of East Point Academy for their hard work in earning School of Distinction status. East Point is in high demand from parents for great reason—it’s a diverse, vibrant school that offers innovative programming—native Mandarin speakers teach students in 50% of their curriculum areas—and generates great results for students, earning both high achievement and growth scores last year. All of this adds up to a school that is living up to the promise of its charter and the primary purpose of charters in our state—to improve student learning,” said South Carolina Public Charter School District Superintendent Elliot Smalley.
East Point Academy is a Mandarin immersion public charter school in West Columbia, SC, serving over 500 students in preschool through eighth grade and was founded in 2011. East Point students receive half of their daily instruction in Mandarin Chinese. East Point Academy has also been named a Palmetto Gold School by the State of South Carolina and the #8 South Carolina Charter School by Niche.com.
